The Counter-Reformation and the Rise of the Baroque

In the final part of the eight week lecture series covering the Italian Renaissance from beginning to end, Rose Balston will take her listeners into the 16th century. With the Sack of Rome, the formation of the Protestant movement and general uncertainty, this lecture looks at the Counter-Reformation to see how the Vatican responded to this nightmare and ultimately introduces Caravaggio who brings with him the Baroque period.
